Tender, moist, and packed with flavor, these sweet and savory nuggets can be ready to eat, from start to finish, in under 30 minutes. Lean chicken tenderloins, whole grain panko crumbs, BBQ sauce, honey, and a few spices are all you need to make this happen.
With school literally just around the corner, I am all about a simple, healthy, no fuss dinner option. Basically just throw everything in a gallon sized zip bag (or lidded bowl), give it a few shakes, spread on a baking sheet, and bake for 10 minutes. Seriously, SO EASY!
My kids absolutely loved them. Elias dipped his in ranch dressing (of course) but Jaycie (my ketchup and BBQ sauce fanatic) preferred hers as is. (YAY!) I always find the most sincere compliments come from children. My kiddos either love what I make or they hate it and they certainly have no issues sharing with me their true feelings on the matter. These chicken nuggets got two thumbs up from a 6 and 3 year old veteran in the field of chicken nugget deliciousness…… so if that doesn’t convince you 😉 Next time I make these, I’m thinking of making Seasoned Sweet Potato Fries to serve alongside or if you find yourself super short on time, I say just steam some broccoli and call it a win.
A few quick notes before we get started.
1) I prefer to work with chicken tenderloins. If you do end up using whole chicken breasts, you might find that the “nuggets” are thicker and need a couple extra minutes in the oven.
2)My family and I are hard core fans of Sweet Baby Rays Original BBQ Sauce. I’m not being sponsored by them and please feel free to use your personal favorite but if you want a brand suggestion, that’s definitely mine.
3)In every version of these I made, I used whole grain panko bread crumbs. I’m sure you could use regular, I just love the extra bit of nutrition from the whole grains.
Let’s get started.
Easy Honey BBQ Chicken Nuggets
- 1 pound chicken tenderloins, cut into bite sized pieces
- 1/4 cup BBQ sauce (we like Sweet Baby Rays Original)
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon coarsely ground garlic salt
- 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
- 2/3 cup whole grain panko breadcrumbs
Preheat oven 350
Place bite sized chicken pieces in a gallon sized zip bag (or lidded bowl).
Add BBQ sauce, honey, and spices.
Zip the bag and shake until chicken is thoroughly coated.
Add breadcrumbs and shake again until chicken is completely coated.
Spread on a foil lined, greased baking sheet.
Bake for 10 minutes or until no longer pink in the center.
