Christmas Detox Smoothie

Frozen strawberries and peaches are blended with greek yogurt, spinach and flax to create the perfectly sweet break from all those Christmas treats.

It’s no secret that I love to bake. I mean, I really love tinkering around in the kitchen, adding a bit of this and touch of that, Christmas music in the background, screaming children in tears because someone zapped someone else’s imaginary powers….oh wait, maybe that’s just my kitchen…well I love it anyways. I have been a cookie baking machine lately, preparing for various gatherings and cookie decorating parties (yes, I know, I  am that corny but come on a cookie decorating party!! How fun is that?! You know you want to…)  And in between being a dedicated and hard working taste tester, I’ve also been testing out a few new dinner recipes…I promise they’re on their way…think creamy, super healthy chicken and dumplings….AND a lightened up ooey gooey hashbrown casserole….oh yes. Each time I made a recipe though, I felt like it needed a few tweaks here and there before it was “blog worthy”. My hubby is probably so tired of hearing that phrase… “here taste this…. no no no, not fine…not ok…. is it BLOG WORTHY?” I only want to share the best with you:) Soooo in between the cookies….the dumplings…and oh yes…the cheesy casserole….I began to feel the need for freshness…something light to counteract a bit of carb overload….and so the Christmas Detox Smoothie was born.

No, you don’t have to make it two different colors in two separate batches BUT look how pretty it is. My daughter was so in love with the layered look of this smoothie that she insisted on a promise of one for breakfast. We of course were running late and as I tried to bribe her into a less involved breakfast, her quivering lip and big sad eyes won out….what was I supposed to do? The child was begging for spinach in her smoothie!

Strawberries, peaches, bananas, spinach, yogurt and flax… read: antioxidants, vitamin C, vitamin A , vitamin B, potassium, iron, protein, calcium, fiber….Loaded with everything you need to keep you going and feeling good all day long.

Christmas Detox Smoothie

  • Yield: 2 smoothies
  • Prep Time: 15 minutes

  • 1 ripe medium banana
  • 1 cup unsweetened  frozen strawberries
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk (any milk is fine)
  • 1/2-1 teaspoon stevia (or 2-4 teaspoon honey or agave nectar)
  • 1 cup frozen unsweetened peach slices
  • 1/2 medium ripe banana
  • 1/2 cup nonfat vanilla greek yogurt (any yogurt is fine)
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk (any milk is fine)
  • 2 tablespoon ground or milled flaxseed
  • 1 cup fresh baby spinach
  • 1/2-1 teaspoon stevia (or 2-4 teaspoon honey or agave nectar)

  1. For the red smoothie, blend banana, strawberries, almond milk and stevia in a blender.

  2.  Pour into a separate container and place in freezer. Rinse out the blender before beginning the second smoothie.

  3. For the green smoothie, add the peach slices, banana, yogurt and almond milk and into the blender and blend well.

  4. Add the flaxseed, spinach and stevia and again, blend well.

  5. Layer the smoothies into 1 mega smoothie or into 2 smaller glasses. I found the strawberry smoothie to be a bit thicker so I would recommend putting that one on the bottom. Cheers.

I enjoy stevia in my smoothies but splenda or equal would substitute just as well. When I make these smoothies for my kids, I use 2% milk and agave nectar (it dissolves so much better than honey) and have had great results with that as well.

  1. Awesome! This smoothie is looking very beautiful. The pink texture is giving it a stunning look! I feel the taste would also be delicious. Isn’t it? Well, I don’t have time to prepare such smoothies so I purchase readymade green drinks and Green supplements to stay fit and healthy.

  2. Thank you! To save time, you could always make it in one big batch. Keep an eye out for a new super simple and fast smoothie in the next week or so. Thanks for taking the time to comment:)
